A Special Elite & their Memorable Records |
[ Contents Here ]
Cafu has made history in this World Cup:
Cafu is the first player ever to have taken part in three consecutive Final Matches (1994 - 1998 - 2002, winner in 1994 & 2002)
Cafu is moreover the first player ever to lift the Trophy for a fifth World Title.
Pelé is the only player in the world who has conquered 3 World Cup Titles: 1958, 1962, 1970.
Zagallo, in turn, holds another unique record so far: he has been World Champion four times, all in all!
Zagallo was World Cup Champion in 1958 and 1962 as a player,
Then, in 1970, Zagallo was World Cup Champion as the coach of the winning Brazilian Squad and in 1994 as the technical coordinator of the winning Brazilian Squad.
Cafu & Ronaldo must now be added to a selected group of 14 other Brazilian players who have conquered 2 World Cup Titles:
Gilmar, Castilho, Djalma Santos, Bellini, Mauro, Zózimo, Nílton Santos, Zito, Didi, Garrincha, Vavá and Pepe, all World Cup Champions in 1958 & 1962, in addition to Zagallo and Pelé, as already specified above.
Cafu & Ronaldo, however, hold an advantage among this special elite of 16 Brazilian players now, just mentioned:
these two 1994 + 2002 Champions were, in addition, Vice-Champions in 1998 (when France conquered the Title against Brazil).
Pelé still has the edge, though, having won 3 World Cups as a player, followed by Zagallo, who won 2 World Cups as a player and 2 others while holding coaching & technical team functions.
Germany’s Franz Beckebauer has won a World Cup as a player, and then again as a coach.
