There was no final match, as such, in 1950, the tournament being decided in a final group contested by four teams. However the match indicated above was both the last one and the decisive one for that World Championship. It is thus usually referred to as the final match, though inaccurately. {¤} Brazil earned permanent possession of the Jules Rimet Trophy, by having been the first Nation to win three World Cups. Thus, a new Trophy was created for the 1974 and subsequent World Cups, and the old rule (of permanent possession of the Trophy, after conquering it three times) was abolished.
