Match-lines: 2006 World Cup Soccer versus Logic . . .
— 2006 World Cup Statistics
Beyond logic...
As an additinal token of curiosity, as far as foretelling the outcome of the current World Cup, this page carries a few "predictions" that transcend the realm of any reasonable logic, bordering the superstitious.
FIFA has pointed out three different possible blueprints, each resulting in a potential 2006 World Cup Champion. The first is purely numerical, whereas the other two ensue from patterns, one starting in 1958, the other in 1962. (See, too, a more recent article on the same theme, The numbers suggest it's Brazil... or Germany, on FIFA's site.)
The three blueprints, above-mentioned, are spelled out below.
The following numerical curiosity tips Germany as the winner of the 2006 World Cup:
??
?? 54 x 74 = 3996 – 1990 = 2006
1954, 1974, and 1990 = the years
Germany won the World Cup

, above, could also be read as above vs. below the Equator (A vs.B), in which case,
• for
(which starts in 1958), any of the sub-equatorial South American and African nations currently competing, as well as Australia, could in principle be a potential candidate to win the 2006 World Cup, whereas
• for
, (which starts in 1962), precisely the reverse would apply, regarding a potential candidate to win the 2006 World Cup!
• if
starts, instead, in 1958, then, symmetry would yield the opposite result, as shown in

So...pick whichever pattern & reasoning that best suits your favorite!
In addition to the above, see the Soccernomics! page for another approach at predicting the World Cup outcome which did not exactly bear a relationship to soccer, either, but which turned out to be remarkably accurate, give or take a very small margin of error.
Abbreviations, above: used by FIFA, as well as in this eBook.
Please Note: ESP for Spain, and KSA for Saudi Arabia, above.
Numbers 1-4, above, correspond to the numbering used for the Groups drawing,
in Leipzig (2005), number one being the seed.squad, in each Group.
