World Cup Groups, by Average Points

Please Note: FIFA has of course not ranked the World Cup Groups (as can be seen below)! FIFA's Rankings refer solely to individual Squads!

The "Points Rank," below (left column), represents a mere virtual "Groups' Rank," among the eight Groups comprising the 2006 World Cup.

This virtual Groups' "Points Rank" has been obtained by adding the FIFA's individual Squad's Ranking Points (available at the moment the Groups were drawn) within each World Cup Group, and by averaging these Points, as well (right column).

In addition, a virtual "Group average-ranking" is also displayed (this is the reference point from which the Groups are viewed in the next Section).

The Table below is self-evident – indeed, far simpler to grasp than the language required for reference to something for the first time, as is the case above!

Interestingly, when a Group Average is considered, as on the current and the following pages, the so-called "Group of death" (Group C) fails to reveal itself as the most competitive one!... Below, it emerges only as the third most competitive Group – compare with the page to follow, where a new surprising result is waiting. Then compare, too, with the data on the page Top Coaches - 2005, where Group E once more emerges as a possibly highly competitive one! All in all, we are better off letting the World Cup to start, to discover which Group will indeed be offering the toughest competition, rather than allowing expectations or fears to build up in advance!
