FIFA World Cup Teams' Ranks, following the 2006 World Cup
2006 Rank Update 6: Post-WC Ranking! (dated 12 July, 2006)
FIFA announced on July 6, 2006, that there will be changes made to the process of calculating their ranking, already effective in the data released on July 12, displayed below.
Among these changes, a team's performance⁄results in the last four years will now be taken into account (vs. in the last eight years, as reflected in the rankings on the previous pages).
On the other hand, neither goals scored nor home advantage will now have an effect to the calculation of the ranking, as both used to previously.
In addition to the above mentioned changes, other entered data such as match result, importance of match, strength of opponents, regional strength, and number of matches, have had their roles in the calculation thoroughly checked and revised, where and as needed. So, these factors, albeit still being entered, will now not do so exactly as when previously taken into account.
